Youth Stories: "Totally Dehumanizing." "I Watched Kids Get Tackled and Have Some Basic Rights Violated"

These comments were made on a Facebook post about a complaint made by youth about mistreatment at Valley of the Moon Children's Home. It is different people discussing their experiences and the experiences of their family members.

First comment: "I believe it, I had staff there tell me they were going to send me to an insane asylum because the woman was upset at me. I watched kids get tacked and have some basic rights violated."

Second comment: "I personally the cell phone thing is silly they should be taken from them, communication is restricted, but the reality is there is so many other issues. The staff was so burned out that many of them took their aggression on the kids. I get it I worked in group homes but as a kid surviving abuse and then having that emotional abuse done by the people meant to protect you was horrifying. I remember it like yesterday my roomate being woken up in the middle of the night strapped to a bed and taken to the mental hospital. A snearing staff woman telling me I was next if I didnt watch my step. I was a good kid, never been in trouble, graduated with my BA and these were some of the worst days of my life. Totally dehumanizing.

Third comment: "My baby girl whom came to live with us April 22, 2011 her adoption was finalized on July 2, 2013. They made it obvious they hate her."

This comment was taken from a public Facebook page. We have made them private because we think people should have the right to decide where they tell their story with their name.
